The third annual Detroit Women of Color Film Festival (July 24th-26th) will be showing our very own Mann ke Manjeeré music video. The star of the film played by actress Mita Vasisht walks out of an abusive relationship and becomes a truck driver to support herself and her daughter. Nominated for an MTV cult-classic, Mann ke Manjeeré proves to be an empowering film for all women.
During the fest, see films on women’s issues of abortion, love, abuse, human trafficking, sexuality, identity and spirituality. Overall, this festival is aimed at displaying the challenges women face across the globe; it includes African, Asian, Latino, Caribbean, African American, Middle Eastern and Native American cultures.
One of the films entitled “Very Young Girls” follows thirteen fourteen-year-old American girls as they are seduced, abused and sold in NYC.
An array of 25 films will be playing on Friday, July 24th and Sunday, July 26th for only $15/day. A film special of $25 is available if you want to enjoy both days.
The Detroit Women of Color Film Festival will take place at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History.
