Breakthrough’s human rights programs in India educate mass audiences on women’s rights, namely, violence against women and sexuality and HIV/AIDS. We work using both creative award-winning multimedia tools and on the ground grassroots efforts to make the popular refrain, “Women’s rights are human rights,” a reality.

Our campaigns:

“What kind of man are you?”
directly asks men to wear condoms to protect their wives from infection. Reports show that 2 million women in India are infected with HIV/AIDS—and most of them have contracted it from their husbands.

“Is This Justice?” aims to bring public attention to the stigma and discrimination faced by women living with HIV/AIDS. Most of who have been infected by their husbands or male partners. The campaign challenges the way in which women in our society are treated, especially women living with HIV/AIDS. These women are either shunned by the family and community or are forced to live on the edge of society after their husbands die of AIDS.

"Bell Bajao" (Ring the Bell)
, urges men to take a stand against domestic violence. One out of every three women faces violence behind closed doors, so whether it's ringing a door bell to stop a crime, or speaking out, people must do their part to ensure women in their communities are living free of violence.
