Breakthrough's Executive Director, Mallika Dutt, sat down with "iDiva" to talk about the importance of the organization's work to combat domestic violence and work towards gender equality.
Even shedding the light on why she does the work she does, she gives insight into being a little girl in India, and how seeing what boys were allowed to do, where she was told "no." She talks of multi-award winning campaign, Bell Bajao that calls on men and boys to bring domestic violence to a halt. She says, "Domestic violence is always seen as a private issue and it happens behind closed doors." Perhaps, that's why people do nothing to help a woman getting abused, because it is perceived as a 'personal matter.'"
