Breakthrough's Executive Director, Mallika Dutt joined a panel on GRITtv about immigration reform and the atrocities of immigrant detention centers in the United States.
In the past few years, over 1 million immigrants have gone through immigrant detention centers, costing the U.S. nearly $1.7 million. Within these centers are children, elderly and families all of whom are not treated as humans and are given inadequate healthcare and food, if any. Nearly 90 people have died in detention centers across the nation over the past few years.
"We've got an immigration system where basic standards of due process and fairness have just been flushed down the toilet. We have a justice system that simply does not work," Dutt says.
