On Tuesday, March 31 MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network) presented a public workshop titled "Grassroots Fundraising for Community Media" at DCTV (Downtown Community Television Center). Panelists provided fundraising ideas and non-traditional grassroots fundraising strategies to get community media projects off the ground.
MNN invited Breakthrough's Grants manager, Nikki Marron, to present as part of a panel of community media and arts organizations. Nikki discussed ideas for diversifying fundraising strategies and the importance of support Breakthrough receives from a variety of funding sources including foundations and individual donors, as well as public events and partnership support.
Other panelists included:
Lyn Pentacost, Executive Director of the Lower East Side Girls Club - which provides a place where girls and young women can grow, learn, have fun, and develop confidence in themselves and their ability to make a difference in the world.
Liza Green, Program Associate for the Grants and Services program at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) - Manhattan’s largest and farthest-reaching arts council, bringing diverse cultural experiences to new audiences in unexpected ways and serving as a gateway to culture, information, and resources across the entire borough.
Manhattan Neighborhood Network administers the Public Access cable television services in Manhattan. MNN seeks to ensure the ability of Manhattan residents to create opportunities for mutual communication, education, artistic expression and other noncommercial uses of video facilities on an open, uncensored and equitable basis.
