Restore the Right to Due Process
The "Restore the Right to Due Process" campaign, which grew from our "Value Families" campaign, contains multi-media products that uphold the beliefs that America should be a place that respects basic human rights. Right now, unfair immigration laws are denying basic due process to immigrants that live in the United States.
Breakthrough has produced numerous video-stories with those that have been directly affected by detention and deportation - from a mother whose teenage daughter was detained to a wife whose husband was deported. In addition, we've produced interactive sites and toolkits that speak to restoring the right to due process for ALL immigrants.
These inhumane, unjust and unlawful laws discriminate and affect: legal permanent residents, asylum seekers, students and undocumented people.
Unfair immigration laws:
Deny a fair day in court and deport people without a hearing
Tie judges’ hands and prevent them from considering the circumstances of each individual case
Impose unjust punishment
Hold immigrants in detention indefinitely in inhumane conditions
This video story gives voice to Ali, a Pakistani-born, HIV+ gay man, living in New York City for 30 years with a green card.
See what happens when a permanent member of a popular space crew finds his status is in question. In any galaxy, when we deny due process and human rights to some, we put all of our freedoms at risk.
