We were very excited to find that our Homeland Guantanamos interactive game on inhumane immigrant detention centers was recently covered by ArtThreat, an online media source that showcases political art and cultural policy. From the ArtThreat website- “We write about art that seeks to interpret, influence, or reflect upon society. We discuss policy as it pertains to culture. And we showcase artists whose work inspires social change.”

Writer, Leslie Dryer was inspired to re-visit the Homeland Guantanamos game in support of the nation-wide hunger strikes taking place in protest of inhumane detention conditions over the last two months. Referencing how the game is “much more than an online educational game,” Dryer extols how the game uses non-linear storytelling to take the player through detainees’ stories and the abuses they endured while in detention. In addition to being impressed with the authenticity of the player’s experience, the article appreciates tools on the Homeland Gitmo website like the memorial wall of those immigrants who died in detention, and the U.S. map that locates local Gitmos. Dryer says, “Spreading, creating or participating in projects as informative and comprehensive as this encourages the beginning of the end of real homeland Guantanamos.”
