On June 2, 2011 in New York City, Breakthrough hosted Speakout: A Benefit to Promote Human Rights.
The event, attended by 200 guests, raised funds to support Breakthrough's cutting-edge programs in the United States and India, which use the power of arts, media, and pop culture to advance human rights. Our line-up included moving and inspiring performances by: ABC-TV anchor Juju Chang, playwright and actor Nilaja Sun, magician Devonte Rosero, winner of Breakthrough's I AM THIS LAND video contest, Jean Franco Vergaray, Executive Director of GEMS, Rachel Lloyd, and musician Salman Ahmad.
