Taking the Bell Bajao! Campaign a step forward, this Google map application aims to help raise awareness about Domestic Violence by providing survivors with vital information including important information about PWDVA like how one can access the law and other relevant information. The map is built on case data sourced from the Lawyers Collective, Delhi.

This is an intensive resource map of Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, Breakthrough’s intervention states. This map lists verified NGOs, Government Officials, Police Stations, Protection Officers and Advocates who can provide immediate help to women facing violence. To this we have added translated versions of court orders of the cases that have used the PWDVA in New Delhi, and put them out on the map. We believe that this is unprecedented in the Indian context. This information can be shared with other NGOs and will be useful to survivors of violence and their families as well. For women facing violence and seeking to take action, this resource where they can actually study similar cases that have been taken to court in the past we hope will be of help. We have also added videos and photographs both documenting Breakthrough’s work in this sector as well as for advocacy.

About Maps for Making Change:

Breakthrough’s Google Map project is part of a larger initiative, Maps for Making Change, which uses technologically advanced geographical mapping techniques to support various programs that strive to provide social justice in India. The 5-month old project provides activists and supporters of movements and campaigns for progressive social change in India with the opportunity to collectively debate and explore in detail the potential of digital mapping as a tool to support their work. . Participants in the project reflect the rich diversity of India’s struggles. They include grassroots activists, NGO workers, artists and researchers working on a dizzying array of issues: from tracing the mobility trajectories of migrant workers constructing Bangalore’s Metro, to mobilising slum dwellers to critically engage with Mumbai’s new Development Plan; from monitoring human rights violations by the state in Chhattisgarh to mapping services for sex workers in Delhi.

Maps for Making Change is organised by The Centre for Internet and Society, in collaboration with Tactical Tech. For more information about Maps for Making Change, please visit maps4change.cis-india.org.
