Sohini

At Breakthrough, Sohini thinks mainly about money: where and how to secure the funding — and partnerships — to support and expand Breakthrough’s India-based work. She also helps develop Breakthrough’s effective, efficient, and resource-smart program strategy. Sohini has spent more than twenty years in the public sector, working with Ashoka Innovators for the Public to raise awareness of social entrepreneurs across India; co-founding the Sanhita Gender Resource Centre; and working with traditional craftspeople across India as program officer of Dastkar. Sohini also worked as the India Strategy consultant at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network for its crucial first three years of launch. Sohini is a trustee of Read India, and a board member of Indian feminist organization CREA, Jeevika Development Society, which uses access and control over financial resources as the key to achieving women’s empowerment, and of Kolkata Sanved, which uses dance movement for recover from trauma and violence. She is also an advisory for the India board of Power of Youth, a Scotland-based organisation supporting entrepreneurs to change the world through business. Sohini has a masters in English lit, a passion for crime fiction, a husband and young daughter, and one very small beagle.
